Preparation

Well, as far as my cycle goes, I’ve started spotting and my temps have stayed low for two days (woo!), so I think I’m approaching a period although I haven’t ovulated. Oh well, at least things are moving on.

DH and I ordered a juicer last night and then re-watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. Ahh, it’s a great film šŸ™‚

I have a transition planĀ into the juice fast, to try and set myself up for the best chance of making it through the first couple of days. Normally I eat and drink crap before doing anything like this, which of course always makes me feel even worse on day 1.

So here it is:

14th (today) Cut out all refined sugar (I was totally off this before Christmas, but it’s snuck back in)
19th Drop down to 1 cup white tea a day (I drink 2 or 3 usually, but they are very low in caffeine)
21st Cut out all meat/fish
22ndĀ Cut out last cup of tea (aiming to get any residual caffeine out before I start the juice fast)
24th Cut out all dairy and eggs (the day before)
25th START JUICE FAST!

I’m still deciding when my last glass of wine will be… probably Saturday night (day before), or maybe the Friday. I’m not a heavy drinker, but I do like a glass in the evening, and since Christmas this has been a sort of permanent fixture… ahem.

Basically I want to try and stagger the withdrawal symptoms for everything, from protein to caffeine to sugar, because I know that the big thing I’m going to be dealing with for the first few days of the fast is HUNGER. And I’m not good when I’m hungry, let alone with everything else mixed in too.

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to this, especially becauseĀ I am sleeping so lightly at the moment, waking up 4+ times each night and taking ages to drop off to sleep. My sleep hasn’t been this disturbed in a very long time and I don’t know exactly what’s causing it, but it is horrible and I’m perpetually tired.

The juicer arrives tomorrow. We splashed out on a Samson 6 in 1 single auger – we had a centrifugal juicer a few years back, but it was so tricky to clean and we never really got along with it. The Samson is really good for veg too, which is primarily what we’ll be juicing. I can’t wait to try it out!

  1. I’ve never done this, but it sounds like it’s best to go into it in steps, as you said! I’m working on getting healthier too, and I know if I don’t do it in small steps I won’t succeed at all. Good luck!
